Undergraduate students who want to work at the Center can apply for our internship course, English 317. The practicum is a three-credit-hour, experiential learning course that combines reading and reflection with hands-on, supervised work as a writing consultant. It is ideal for students who want to learn more about teaching writing or improve their writing skills.
After completing the practicum, you will be eligible to work for pay. You can still apply, however, if you don’t want to work for pay (for example, because you are graduating, or you can only commit for one semester). The practicum is open to students in all majors. English 101 and 102 (or their equivalent) are prerequisites.
To apply, submit the following:
- EN 317 Application
- Names and contact information (phone/e-mail address) of two references who can attest to your academic and writing ability. These can include professors, work supervisors, or current writing center staff members. Formal letters of recommendation are not required.
- Sample(s) of your academic writing (up to 10 pages)
- [Optional] A resume

We will make decisions and notify applicants at the end of October. EN 317 meets on T/R from 11:00-12:15.
